Ean H. C. Hong Memorial Scholarship
An exemplar of the precepts of Triangle, Ean Heng Chung Hong was initiated into the Penn State Chapter as a Nuclear Engineering major in 1994. On October 14 of that same year, he died following a short illness. Ean was the only child of Edward and Min Hong of Singapore, and the tragedy of his death deeply affected the Hong family as well as our fraternity.
To honor Ean’s legacy at Penn State, his parents established the Ean H. C. Hong Memorial Scholarship Fund specifically for the benefit of deserving members of the Penn State Chapter of Triangle. The generosity of the Hong family has empowered our chapter to reward top brothers with some of the most valuable scholarships available to any member of any Triangle chapter across the nation.
His laughter was better than birds in the morning;
His smile turned the edge of the wind;
His memory disarms death and charms the surly grave.
Early he went to bed, too early we saw his light put out.
Yet we could not grieve more than a little while
For he lives in the earth around us, laughs from the sky.

Objective
To keep Ean’s legacy strong with this endowment, by rewarding brothers who (like Ean himself) exemplify the precepts of this Fraternity in areas of academic excellence, involvement inside and outside the Fraternity, and general positivity. The scholarship is to be awarded to two different members during each of the Fall and Spring semesters, at $4,000 per winner (for a total of $16,000 across four individual awards during each school year).
Applicant Criteria
Applicant is an Active or Associate Member of the Penn State Chapter of Triangle Fraternity
Applicant has signed a leasing contract for a room at the fraternity house (226 E. Beaver Ave.) covering the semester when he applies
Applicant is enrolled in a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree program
Applicant has not previously received the Ean H. C. Hong Memorial Scholarship
Applicant possesses full-time enrollment status at the University Park campus for the current semester (i.e., the semester during which the applicant applies for the scholarship)
Applicant either possessed full-time enrollment status at the University Park campus for the previous semester, OR earned Penn State credit for a full-time co-op or research assignment during the previous semester
